The heart of the mountain

What’s beautiful in landscapes ? Landscapes

Let’s redo them in Blender

An animation ? Where ?

That shot was realised for my animated short The Ascension of the High Hrothgar which hasn’t been finished yet and is on hiatus. It was a training on how to make convincing snow landscape and cold environments in general

Mountain in the making

Cycles and Eevee

Blender can use two different render engines. Cycles the path tracer, and Eevee the real time engine. Cycles look the best but takes a lot longer to render

You will see that, you can use Cycles all you want, if you render is ugly, your render is ugly

The heart of the mountain 🗻

A beautiful peek of the void

So…is that all ?

I think the lighting is agreeable and the composition is good. Or is there any composition at all ? In the final animation a character is supposed to be in the center, moving along the mountain, but because he was taken away there isn’t a focal element anymore

That render is empty and doesn’t show anything. There is no story, it’s a technical demo at best

But a good technical demo…right ?

Well not really. You can see the rocks are extremely faded and look again more like stains than actual rocks

The snowy landscape in the background doesn’t look remotely as good as the foreground and it’s noticeable. In an animation this could have been fine, but taken as an image on its own; it just isn’t good
